Report: Spurs regard Pau Torres as ‘a better long-term’ option than Inter star

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur consider Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres as a better long-term option than Inter Milan’s Stefan de Vrij.

Spurs are expected to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back when the transfer window opens in the summer (The Athletic).

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Torres has emerged as Tottenham’s top targets ahead of the likes of RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, Atletico Madrid’s Mario Hermoso and Lille’s Sven Botman.

The report added that the Yellow Submarine want a fee close to Torres’ release clause, which stands at £55m.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the Villarreal star ahead of the summer transfer window (Fabrizio Romano).

According to The Mirror, Spurs and Manchester United are set to battle it out for Torres’ signature this summer.

The report adds that Tottenham are assessing a potential cash-plus-player swap deal with Villareal which could see Giovani Lo Celso heading the other way on a permanent basis.

The one advantage we have over other suitors in the race for Torres is the fact that Villarreal will be desperate to sign Lo Celso on the back of his impressive loan spell at the club. However, the decision might come down to the Spaniard himself, who might want to join a club who are in the Champions League.
