Report: Spurs rejected multiple ‘low-ball offers’ from Barcelona

According to a new report detailing Barcelona’s need for a new midfielder, it has been revealed that the Spanish club sent ‘low-ball offers’ to Tottenham Hotspur for Giovani Lo Celso, but Spurs knocked back the approaches every time.

After spending the last two years away from the club on loan with Villarreal, it was not clear whether Giovani Lo Celso would ever have a future at Tottenham again, and there was plenty of speculation linking the playmaker with a move away from the club during the summer.

Barcelona have long been mooted as a suitor of Lo Celso’s as they look for cover for the injured Gavi, but reports from Spain suggested Spurs were not willing to let the Argentine go (Sport).

He has now found himself a regular part of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad at Tottenham and has managed to register two goals and two assists from 12 games this season (Transfermarkt).

Why did Spurs reject Barcelona’s offers for Lo Celso?

Now, Barcelona are still trying to find a midfielder to join their ranks, but it seems Lo Celso will not be the answer to that problem. According to the latest from The Independent, the Catalan club never managed to send a suitable offer Tottenham’s way.

The report claims the reason Barcelona “failed” in their attempts to sign Lo Celso on loan is that they had sent “low-ball offers” to Spurs. Despite having “repeatedly spoken” to the North London club about the player, Barcelona were “well short” of the kind of agreement terms Spurs were looking for.

In addition, it is said Lo Celso is “enjoying his football” under Postecoglou right now and he is happy with how “transparent” the manager has been about his squad status.

Spurs Web Opinion

I never thought I would see the day, but Lo Celso has well and truly proven that he has a big role to play at Spurs now under Postecoglou, and there is no way we should let him leave.
