Report: Spurs remain interested in 24-year-old as La Liga club plan contract talks

According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are one of three Premier League clubs who remain interested in a move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

Spurs were linked with a move for Dembele during the January transfer window (TuttoMercatoWeb) after the winger, who is now into the final six months of his contract, reportedly failed to reach an agreement on a new deal with the Catalan giants (Mirror).

According to some sources, Spurs only decided against signing the 24-year-old in January as the North London club were told they would need to hand the winger a £250,000-a-week contract (ESPN).

Foot Mercato have now revealed that Barca plan on offering a new contract to Dembele in light of his improved performances over recent weeks.

The report adds that the Catalan giants are determined to keep the winger, whose entourage have demanded a contract worth €20m (£16.6m) plus a signing-on fee.

Spurs, Manchester United and Newcastle are said to be ready to pounce if Dembele does not reach an agreement with Xavi’s men.

The report also reveals the French international has already reached a verbal agreement with PSG and the Ligue 1 giants are also waiting to see how his situation at Barca evolves.

Spurs Web Opinion

Dembele’s talent is not in doubt but I have reservations about the idea of bringing him to Spurs. There are question marks over the Frenchman’s attitude and I am not sure that he will be a good fit for Conte’s set-up, which requires the forwards to work tirelessly off the ball.
