Report: Spurs remain interested in centre-back but face heavy competition

Super Deporte have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Sevilla’s Jules Kounde but the North London club face competition from several of their Premier League rivals for the centre-back’s signature.

Tottenham were reportedly in talks over a deal for Kounde during last summer’s transfer window, with Gianluca Di Marzio claiming at the time the North London club had agreed on a fee of around €30m (£25.6m) plus Davinson Sanchez with Sevilla for the 23-year-old.

However, Spurs were unable to get a deal for the Frenchman over the line and ended up signing Cristian Romero from Atalanta instead.

Kounde is having another fine season for Julen Lopetegui’s side and his stock has grown even further as a result.

Super Deporte have now claimed that the centre-back is on the radars of Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report adds that Chelsea are the frontrunners to snap up Kounde, with Thomas Tuchel identifying the Les Blues star as the man to replace Antonio Rudiger, whose contract at Stamford Bridge ends in the summer.

Despite Kounde having a release clause of €80m (£67m), it is said that Sevilla would be willing to sell the defender for around €70m (£58.6m).

Spurs Web Opinion

We would have no chance of attracting players of Kounde’s quality if we do not get back into the Champions League.

Even if we do somehow finish top four, one would not expect us to get involved in a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea.

I expect Paratici to look towards the French and Italian markets to find deals that represent good value for money (like Botman or Romagnoli).
