Report: Spurs remain interested in centre-back – Six other clubs also keen

90 min have claimed that Villarreal are braced to lose defender Pau Torres, with Tottenham said to be one of several clubs who are eyeing a move for the Spaniard.

The report reveals that Villarreal are willing to cash in on Torres when the transfer market opens in January. It is said that the La Liga club are ‘unlikely’ to demand the defender’s full £55m release clause and would instead be looking for a fee upwards of £40m.

90 min state that Tottenham enquired about the Spain international’s availability last month and that the North London club remain interested in his services.

Aston Villa have now reportedly emerged as a contender for the 25-year-old, with Unai Emery keen to reunite with the player at Villa Park. In addition, Chelsea, Wolves and Everton are also said to be keeping tabs on Torres’ situation ahead of the January transfer window.

Outside of the Premier League, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan are thought to be admirers of the Villarreal star, with the Parisians said to have scouted the centre-back this season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not expect us to make a move for Torres in January as a left-sided centre-back is unlikely to be a priority for Antonio Conte, given that both Lenglet and Davies have done well this season. A right-sided centre-back is likely to be a bigger priority as both Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga could leave the club.
