Report: Spurs remain interested in player they missed out on in January

Tottenham remain interested in signing Adama Traore with Barcelona not ready to sign him on a permanent basis from Wolves, according to the print edition of Spanish newspaper Sport (28/03/22).

Traore rejoined his boyhood club during the January transfer window on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The La Liga side have the option of making the transfer permanent for around £29 million (Sky Sports), but they are said not to be keen on shelling out on the fee at present.

Sport claim that Traore’s future is likely to be in the Premier League barring an ‘unlikely change of plans’, which could open the door for Tottenham to enter the picture again.

Antonio Conte reportedly made the winger a prime target during the winter and intended to use him as an option to solve his problems at right wing-back (The Times) but ended up missing out on him after opting to return to the Nou Camp (The Athletic).

The report adds that Spurs remain interested in Traore and are waiting in the wings monitoring how Barcelona intend to proceed.

Traore hit the ground running on his second stint at Barca recording two assists in his first two league games for the club, but has recently been in and out of the side under Xavi (Transfermarkt).

Barcelona are still in a relatively strange position financially so they may well choose not to exercise the permanent option in Traore’s contract.

It coulds mean that Spurs have the opportunity to come back in for him, providing they still plan on using him in a wing-back role, but this might be one transfer that the club might want to move on from.
