Report: Spurs said to be leading race for Ajax star

According to a report by Calcio Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are the front runners in the race to land Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech has been in sensational form for the Eredivisie giants since joining from FC Twente back in 2014.

He played a crucial role in helping Ajax win the domestic double last season and scored against Spurs in the second leg of the Champions League semi final.

He has begun the season in impressive form having already managed to notch up six goals an fifteen assists in all competitions so far (transfermarkt.com).

The report from Calcio Mercacto claims that the Serie A pair of Napoli and Roma are both keen on landing the Moroccan international in the January transfer window.

However, it is lcaimed that Tottenham are more serious about their Ziyech pursuit with the North London side viewing him as the man to replace Christian Eriksen.

The report says that Napoli and Roma both fear that Spurs may swoop for Ziyech in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no suggestion of how much Ziyech would cost but given that he has been one of Ajax’s best players for several years now, he certainly won’t come cheap. If we are to sign Ziyech to replace Eriksen, perhaps that is an indication that we might be switching to a 4-3-3.
