Report: Spurs scouted midfielder last week and their interest in him is growing

According to the print edition of Record (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are increasingly keen on signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand after scouting him over recent weeks.

The report says that Spurs are looking to sign a defensive midfielder in the summer to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp, with Hjulmand said to be one of the names on the top of their list.

It is explained that the North London club sent their scouts to Portugal to watch the 24-year-old in action in Sporting’s 2-1 win over Benfica.

Spurs interest is growing in Morten Hjulmand

Record say that the representatives who watched Hjulmand sent back glowing reports of the Denmark international, with Tottenham’s interest in the player growing over the ‘last few weeks’.

There is now said to be ‘growing enthusiasm’ at Hotspur Way about the defensive midfielder as the officials at the Premier League side contemplate a potential move.

However, the outlet makes it clear that Sporting are not interested in losing their talisman in the summer and will do their best to resist a sale.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham found out during their talks with Sporting over Pedro Porro just how difficult the Lisbon club can be to negotiate with. If Hjulmand does not have a release clause, I am not sure Levy and co would be too keen on holding protracted negotiations with the Portuguese side.
