Report: Spurs scouts in attendance at Tuesday’s Champions League clash

According to a report from the print edition of Portuguese newspaper A Bola, scouts from Tottenham were present at the Estadio do Dragao on Tuesday for Porto’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan, with the publication suggesting that they might have been there to cast their eye over goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Reports over recent months have backed Spurs to sign a successor to Hugo Lloris in the summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili, David Raya, Robert Sanchez and Mike Maignan thought to be near the top of the North London club’s wishlist (Football.London).

Jornal de Notícias (09/03/23 via SportWitness) claimed last week that the Lilywhites are also eyeing Costa as a potential replacement for their captain.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been in terrific form between the sticks for Porto since the start of last season and carried that form into last year’s World Cup with Portugal.

A Bola report that the Lilywhites ran the rule over Costa in Porto’s clash with Inter on Tuesday but the goalkeeper ended up having a quiet day as the Portuguese giants played out a 0-0 draw, which meant that they bowed out from the Champions League.

Tottenham’s own Champions League hopes were ended last week when they failed to overturn a 1-0 scoreline against AC Milan from the first leg with a disappointing effort at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Costa has a bright future ahead of him and I would expect not just Spurs but also the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United to consider moving for him in the summer.

There are perhaps parallels to where Lloris was in his career when Spurs signed him back in 2011 and where the Porto man is right now.
