Report: Spurs see 22-year-old PL star as potential competition for Kulusevski

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur see Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson as an option to compete with Dejan Kulusevski for the right-wing birth.

It was reported by The Daily Mail on 31 July that Tottenham could turn their attention to Johnson over the coming weeks if Harry Kane departed the club, with the report adding that Forest have put a £50m price tag on the attacking midfielder.

Spurs’ interest in the 22-year-old was also backed up by The Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor, who told GiveMeSport a couple of days ago that the reports linking the Welshman with a move to the North London club are ‘very credible’.

Johnson an option for right-wing role at Spurs

The Athletic have now also confirmed that Tottenham ‘like’ Johnson, with the outlet explaining that Ange Postecoglou sees the youngster as someone who can offer competition for Kulusevski.

It is alleged that the Lilywhites might have pursued a deal for the Forest star even if Kane had stayed, as the club see the right-wing birth as a gap in their squad.

The outlet adds that Spurs would try to include one or more of their unwanted players as makeweights in the deal to sign Johnson.

While I can see why Postecoglou would be keen on reinforcements at right-wing, I do feel that Bryan Gil has the attributes to thrive under the Australian if he gets opportunities. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, the timing of his injury could not have been any worse.
