Report: Spurs send scouts to watch teenager striker in action following Aston Villa bid

Aston Villa have made the first approach to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Caleb Chukwuema, according to the Daily Mail.

The Northampton Town have rejected the bid from Villa for the forward, despite the fact that he is able to leave the club for free in January due to the fact that he is still on a youth contract.

Tottenham and Newcastle United have both been credited with interest in the 19-year-old with both sides having sent scouts to watch Chukwuema during Northampton’s 2-1 pre-season friendly defeat to West Ham United, in which he came off the bench.

The teenager made 22 appearances for the Cobblers last season in all competitions and four the back of the net on two occasions (transfermarkt).

The 19-year-old could leave the League Two side for a minimal compensation sum due to his contractual situation and has a number of admirers, the report claims.

SpursWeb Opinion

Tottenham already have talent in the academy ranks when it comes to attacking options with Kion Etete, Dane Scarlett and Troy Parrott all held in high regard.

The potential arrival of Chukwuema would potentially stifle the progress of some of our other players and given his relatively low goalscoring return last season, it would be a player that I would not be disappointed to see end up elsewhere.
