Report: Spurs set asking price for 23-year-old amidst La Liga club’s interest

According to Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to cash in on Emerson Royal this summer, just 12 months on from his arrival at the club.

Emerson has not quite been able to adapt to the right wing-back role since Antonio Conte’s arrival, with the Brazilian falling behind Matt Doherty in the pecking order over recent months.

However, with Doherty now expected to be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury (Football.London), the former Barcelona man might have a key role to play in the Lilywhites’ final run-in.

The Sun reported last month that Conte has not been convinced by Emerson and wants to bring in a new right wing-back in the summer.

The Brazilian international was rumoured to be on the radar of Atletico Madrid (Marca). This information has now been backed up by Fichajes, who state that Atletico could look to bring Emerson back to La Liga.

The report claims that Spurs are ready to sell the defender since he does not fit into Conte’s plans and that the player would welcome a return to Spain.

It is said that the North Londoners will demand €25m (£20.9m) for Emerson and that Diego Simeone’s side will work to try and reduce that figure.

Doherty’s injury might give Emerson a potential lifeline to save his Spurs career.

The 23-year-old is likely to start all seven games until the end of the season and it is up to him to show Conte that he can adapt to the wing-back role.

However, I would be extremely surprised if the Brazilian is still at Tottenham next season.
