Report: Spurs set for transfer tussle with Chelsea over midfielder

According to the print edition of Sport Bild (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham have expressed an interest in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Jonas Hofmann.

Hofmann has been an important player for Gladbach since arriving at the club in 2016 and is part of Germany’s squad for this summer’s European Championship.

The versatile midfielder, who still notched up 6 goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga despite having an injury-hit season, is rumoured to be a long-term target for Spurs.

Sport 1 journalist Patrick Berger last week named Tottenham as one of the contenders for the midfielder’s signature and revealed that Gladbach are willing to let him go for around €15m (£12.8m) this summer.

Bild have also now backed Spurs to potentially make a summer move for Hofmann but add that the Lilywhites could face competition from their London rivals, Chelsea.

Additionally, Atletico Madrid are said to have expressed an interest in the Gladbach star.

Spurs Web Opinion:

If true, Spurs may find it hard to compete with the La Liga champions and the winners of the Champions League, especially when the player comes with a very affordable price tag.
