Report: Spurs set to battle Everton and Arsenal for Bundesliga midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to German news outlet Bild.

The report claims that Spurs face competition from North London rivals Arsenal, along with Everton.

The Swiss international was laid low by COVID-19 late last month and has been building his fitness by running five to six miles on a treadmill in a bid to remain in good condition should he be on the move.

Monchengladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl revealed last week that the Bundesliga outfit have already received ‘a lot of offers’ for the 24-year-old and would have to see what happens ‘in the next few days and weeks’ (Daily Mail).

A knee injury limited the defensive midfielder’s appearances for his club last season, having made just fifteen starts in the German top flight (transfermarkt).

Zakaria has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Monchengladbach, who are understood to be demanding €30million (£25.6m) to allow him to leave (Mirror).

A holding midfielder to compliment Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has to be a priority for Spurs this summer with doubts over the future of Moussa Sissoko, while Tanguy Ndombele failed to feature in any of the club’s pre-season fixtures.
