Report: Spurs set to battle it out with Man Utd for 23-year-old this summer

According to Spanish publication Sport (28/03/22 edition – as relayed by TEAMtalk), Tottenham Hotspur are keen on snapping up Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg this summer.

Svanberg was said to be on Tottenham’s radar during January, with reports indicating that the club’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, previously tried to take the midfielder to Juventus (Inews).

The 23-year-old ended up staying put at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara but his future remains uncertain as his current contract at Bologna runs out in 2023 (Transfermarkt).

Sport have now revealed that Spurs are set to reignite their pursuit of Svanberg when the transfer window reopens.

The report alleges that Antonio Conte’s men view the Sweden international as a potential replacement for Harry Winks, who is apparently certain to leave the club in the summer.

However, it is suggested that the Lilywhites are expected to face competition from Manchester United for Svanberg, with the Red Devils wanting the midfielder to compete with Fred for a place in the starting eleven.

In addition, the Bologna star is also said to be attracting interest from the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Roma and AC Milan.

Spurs Web Opinion

We would probably have to strengthen our midfield ranks this summer, with Winks likely to leave in search of regular first-team football. Svanberg would be an excellent addition to the squad and given his age and high ceiling, fits the profile of targets Spurs tend to pursue.
