Report: Spurs set to battle Villa for Championship winger

According to a report by the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa could be locked in a battle to sign Brentford winger Said Benrahma in the January transfer window.

The midfielder has established himself as a mainstay in the Brentford midfield since his move from Nice in July 2018 and he has continued to impress this campaign as the west Londoners look to target promotion through the playoff spots.

His performances for Brentford have reportedly attracted the interest of Premier League clubs with Villa said to be leading the race for his signature.

However, the print edition of the Sunday Times (22/12/19) (as relayed by Football League World), claims that Spurs are now looking to steal a march on Villa and are considering making an offer for the 24-year-old in January.

The Daily Star report that the Algerian international is valued at £20m by the Championship club.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Benrahma has looked quite really promising in the Championship, I am not sure if he has the quality to make the step up to a top Premier League club. At 24 years of age, he isn’t particularly young either and so this will be an extremely underwhelming signing for Tottenham.
