Report: Spurs set to challenge Atletico for Real Madrid attacker

According to El Chiringuito TV (as relayed by CalcioMercato), Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to sign Real Madrid wide man Lucas Vazquez.

After coming through the ranks of Real Madrid’s academy and experiencing a season on loan at Espanyol, Vazquez has gone on to make more than 150 appearances for the Los Blancos first-team.

The wide man was linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window as well, with Defensa Central reporting at the time that the North Londoners were ready to pay €16m (£14.5m) for his services.

However, the move did not materialise and the Spanish international has continued to be a vital part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans this season.

El Chiringuito TV now claim that Vazquez is not planning on signing a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeau and with his current deal running out at the end of the season, Madrid may have little choice but to sell him before the end of the month.

The report asserts that Tottenham are competing with Atletico Madrid for the 29-year-old’s signature, with both Jose Mourinho and Diego Simeone said to be fans of the experienced midfielder.

Given the issues we have in central midfield and centre-back, the last thing we need this month is to sign another winger. However, the fact that Vazquez could be available on a cut-price deal might convince the club to move for him and potentially try to move on one of either Lucas or Lamela.
