Report: Spurs set to compete with Everton and Dortmund for Ajax player

According to a report by El Intransigente, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have both entered the race for highly-rated Ajax left back Nicolas Tagliafico.

The Argentinean has enjoyed a fantastic couple of years at Amsterdam and is one of the most respected full-backs in Europe.

While Tagliafico only extended his contract with Ajax last summer, he has already revealed that he will stay for just one more season with the Dutch giants (SI).

New Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has prefered to start Jan Vertonghen on the left side of his defence in recent matches ahead of Danny Rose.

Although Everton have Lucas Digne, they are said to be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines, whose contract runs out at the end of the season.

However, it is Borussia Dortmund who are said to be leading the race for the 27-year-old full back with the German giants reportedly prepared to pay €60m for his services in the January transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

The system Mourinho seems to be employing is a back four which switches to a back three in possession of the ball. With Son hugging the left touchline, the left back is expected to play almost as a left centre back and so I’m not convinced that an attacking left back like Tagliafico would suit our system.
