Report: Spurs set to lose out to Arsenal for transfer target

While Tottenham Hotspur continue to have the North London bragging rights over Arsenal after finishing above them for a third successive season, it looks as if they could be set to miss out on a transfer target to the Woolwich.

The Times claim that Saint Etienne centre-back William Saliba would prefer to move to the Emirates.

Saliba is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in French football after making 16 appearances in Ligue 1 last season.

The French Under-19 international is valued at around £23million and has caught the eye with his ability on the ball and pace (ESPN).

At 6ft 4in, he is an imposing figure and has been billed in his homeland as ‘new Raphael Varane’ after the Real Madrid defender (The Sun).

Opinion

Saliba has more of a chance of playing regular first time football at the Europa League lot down the road considering the quality we already possess at the heart of our defence in Jan Vertonghen, Juan Foyth, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld.

Even if Toby left, we still have the option of Eric Dier who can drop back from midfield.
