Report: Spurs set to make opening offer for Southampton star Hojbjerg

According to The Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are set to make their opening offer for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after Southampton gave the midfielder the green light to leave St Mary’s.

Hojbjerg, who only has one year left to run on his contract with the Saints, has thrown more than a few hints about potentially leaving the club this summer.

The midfielder admitted last month that he would like to play at a higher level and that he had been honest about that desire with his current club (Sport 1).

Southampton have also hinted that they would be prepared to let the 24-year-old leave with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl admitting the club cannot afford to let him leave on a free transfer next season.

Chief executive Martin Semmens has also hinted that the right offer would be accepted (BBC Solent Sport via Football.London).

The Daily Star now claims that the Denmark international is a player Jose Mourinho admires and that an offer from the Lilywhites is imminent.

It is revealed that Everton also remain keen on Hojbjerg and are weighing up a potential bid themselves.

Spurs Web Opinion

Out of the various defensive midfielders we have been linked with, Hojbjerg seems to be the most realistic and practical target for us. He would not cost all that much due to his contract situation and can slot into the side straight away. However, he is more of a functional player than one who is going to make a difference. He would do the dirty work in midfield and potentially free up the likes of Ndombele and Lo Celso to do dictate games.
