Report: Spurs set to miss out on £8.5m-rated South American starlet

According to a report from Meu Timao, Corinthians are negotiating the sale of rumoured Tottenham target Rodrigo Varanda with Red Bull Bragantino.

Varanda broke into the Corinthians first-team last season and the youngster demonstrated considerable potential in the handful of appearances he made.

ESPN Brasil previously claimed that Tottenham had made an approach for the 18-year-old while The Sun even suggested that the North Londoners could strike an £8.5m deal for the attacking midfielder.

The youngster’s contract with Corinthians was initially set to run out this year which meant that he was allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club.

However, if Meu Timao’s latest update is to be believed, Varanda could now be on his way to Red Bull Bragantino.

Corinthians are said to be in talks with Bragantino over the youngster’s sale after he extended his contract with the club until 2024.

It is explained that Sylvinho’s side would prefer to hold on to 15 per cent of the player’s rights.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is always a huge risk associated with bringing in players from South America as one never knows how they will settle into European football or whether they would go on to fulfil their potential.

However, part of the reason we have brought Paratici in is so that the Italian (and his team of scouts) can identify talents like these before they make their mark at the top level.
