Report: Spurs set to miss out on multi-million payment from sale of player

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to lose out on a £10million windfall from fellow Premier League side Everton with Dele Alli looking uncertain to meet the criteria for the payout.

The England international left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to join the Toffees on on deadline day of the January 2022 with both clubs having agreed a deal worth up to £40m and was structured based on performance-related add-ons (Sky Sports).

Dele left Tottenham after seven years at the club after he joined from MK Dons in February 2015 for just £5m and became a household name, rising to the top under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Mirror claim that £10million of the structured fee was based on the 27-year-old clocking up 20 appearances for the Toffees, but has only made 13 to date.

Spurs look set to miss out on Dele payment from Everton

Tottenham attempted to renegotiate the agreement in December to reduce the amount to £8million and lowering the number of appearances required, however, they failed to persuade the Merseysiders.

The midfielder is out of contract at Goodison Park in the summer and with the player having been forced to undergo groin surgery in January, time is running out for Tottenham to receive the windfall.

Dele made 269 appearances in all competitions for Spurs and scored 67 goals, including 51 in the Premier League.

Regardless of the £10million, many Tottenham fans are pained to see the fact that Dele has not been able to get back on the pitch to kick start his career again.

The way he spoke out about the issues he faced earlier in his life were commendable and hopefully, he can find another club in the summer and get the fresh start he deserves.
