Report: Spurs set to miss out on one of Europe’s brightest talents

Tottenham Hotspur have qualified for their first ever Champions League semi final after a win over two legs against Manchester City.

Spurs will now play two legs against this season’s surprise package, Ajax, in a bid to reach the Champions League final.

This will pit Tottenham head to head against a player they have been monitoring for some time, Ajax central defender and captain Matthijs de Ligt.

The 19-year-old scored a thumping header against Juventus to send his own club through to the semi final in sensational style last week.

The teenage captain has also already played 110 club games for Ajax, a staggering number for a player so young.

However, despite Spurs showing clear interest in the star, they are worried that he has had his head turned by Barcelona, especially after Ajax teammate Frenkie De Jong has already signed for the Spanish giants (Football Insider).

Hopefully Tottenham can impress the young centre back as they take him on at the new Spurs stadium at the end of the month.
