Report: Spurs set to miss out on striker Mourinho likes as Roma offer cash plus player

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (as translated by The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on rumoured striker target Arkadiusz Milik, who is said to be on his way to Roma.

Previous reports have claimed that Spurs were going head to head with Juventus for the Napoli striker, who has only a year left to run on his contract at the San Paolo Stadium (SportItalia via Area Napoli).

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold claimed last month that the Poland international is a player Jose Mourinho likes and was keen to bring to North London.

However, Corriere dello Sport now suggests that the 26-year-old is on his way to the Stadio Olimpico as part of an exchange deal which will see Cengiz Under come to Napoli.

Roma will also reportedly pay £14million on top of the Turkish international to sign Milik and it is claimed that the deal is almost complete.

This could come as a potential blow to Mourinho who has reportedly prioritised the signing of a forward this summer to take the pressure off Harry Kane (Daily Star).

Spurs Web Opinion

Up until a month ago, we were getting almost regular updates from the Italian press about our pursuit of Milik but the rumours have stopped abruptly. If it is true that he is now Roma bound, then perhaps that indicates that we have turned our attentions elsewhere. Based on the signings we have made so far this window, I believe Callum Wilson is likely to be the one that we go for. He is proven in the Premier League, would be relatively cheap and would also help us with our homegrown quota.
