Report: Spurs set to receive financial windfall following Champions League outcome

According to a report by Fotospor, Tottenham Hotspur are set to receive a financial boost following Galatasaray securing a place in the next round of the Europa League.

Tottenham offloaded Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele to Galatasaray during the summer, with the Colombian joining the Istanbul side in a deal worth €9.5m (£8.1m) while the Frenchman signed for the club on a season-long loan with the option to make the move permanent for €15m (£12.8m).

The centre-back has hit the ground running and quickly established himself as an indispensable part of Okan Buruk’s backline, having received plenty of plaudits for his displays (Sporx).

In stark contrast, Ndombele has struggled to get regular game time at Rams Park and it has been suggested by some outlets that his loan spell could even prematurely be ended in January (Fanatik).

Spurs set to net extra payment

Galatasaray fell to a 1-0 loss to Copenhagen in their final Champions League group stage game on Tuesday, with Sanchez playing all 90 minutes and Ndombele having to watch on from the bench.

The result means that the Danish club have made it to the next stage of the competition at the Turkish side’s expense, with Galatasaray instead dropping into the knockout stages of the Europa League after finishing in third place in Group A ahead of Manchester United.

Fotospor suggests clauses in Ndomebele’s and Davinson Sanchez‘s transfer, Galatasaray now will have to make a payment to Tottenham following the continuation of their European adventures.

All transfer deals these days contain conditional clauses and one would not have expected Sanchez’s move to be any different. However, I am surprised that a part of the loan fee for Ndombele may have been conditional on Galatasaray’s involvement in Europe into the new year.
