Report: Spurs set to receive injury boost following improvement of midfielder’s infection

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp could be set to return to first-team action by mid-April, according to Football. London.

The 21-year-old has not featured for Antonio Conte’s side since coming on as a second half substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on 23 January.

His return to fitness has been complicated by an infection caused by an injection, the amount of football he has played over the past eighteen months is said to have been a contributing factor to being sidelined (Yahoo).

At a press conference earlier this month, Spurs head coach Antonio Conte called upon the club’s medical team to explain in public the issue surrounding the England Under-21 international (Guardian).

The report claims that Skipp’s condition is improving and he has been working outdoors with the sports science staff on his own in advance of returning to full training with his team-mates, while it is hoped he could return to Conte’s selection plans in around a fortnight.

It has been a shame that Skipp has been sidelined and unable to form a partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur following his late-January arrival from Juventus.

Skipp’s return would likely see Harry Winks drop down to fourth place in the midfield pecking order, leaving the youngster to battle it out with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for a place in the starting eleven.
