Report: Harry Kane and Spurs staff could be in line for pottery lessons

The Sun have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to hire a ‘well-being guru’ so their players can relax with activities such as art classes, yoga sessions and poetry readings.

Antonio Conte unleashed a tirade at the Spurs squad following their 3-3 draw against Southampton, with the Italian accusing the players of being selfish rather than playing for the team (Football.London).

The Spurs boss also insisted that the players lacked the ‘fight’ and ‘spirit’ necessary to see out wins on a regular basis.

However, amidst the criticism for being too soft and lacking fight, The Sun have now suggested that the players are at the club are set to be pampered with a ‘well-being guru’ to keep them happy.

The executive in question is reportedly expected to work with the club’s psychologists, who monitor stars’ state of mind, and the player care officers.

The publication states that they will be expected to set up health and well-being activities for the squad and create a network of mental health first-aiders to assist struggling staff and players.

According to The Sun, an ad put out by Spurs reads: “The Club is seeking a Health & Wellbeing Lead to develop the Health and Wellbeing Services across the club.

“As the Health & Wellbeing Lead, your primary focus will be on our employees. You will work with key stakeholders on supporting our development of elite players (including boys/girls and Women).

“The Health & Wellbeing Lead will drive workforce awareness and development about mental health and embed it into all aspects of the business.”

I do not think it is fair to use this as evidence that the players are too pampered.

Mental health is becoming an increasingly important topic, particularly for professional athletes, who live their life in the public eye, and Tottenham are certainly not the only club looking to assist their employees in this manner to improve their morale.
