Report: Spurs set to test La Liga club’s resolve with £8.5m offer for 26-year-old

According to Spanish outlet Ideal, Tottenham Hotspur are set to make an opening offer for Granada defender Domingos Duarte.

Spurs have already acquired the signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta this summer but Nuno Espirito Santo is alleged to be keen on adding more defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold suggested last week that the North London club would have to sell one of their central defenders before bringing in another one.

However, sources from Spain claimed over the weekend that Nuno had urged the club to snap up Duarte, with the Spurs boss thought to believe the 26-year-old is capable of shining in the Premier League.

Ideal have now also backed up the claim regarding Tottenham’s interest in Duarte, who has been the main pillar of Granada’s backline for the last couple of seasons.

The report suggests that the Portuguese centre-back is keen to join his compatriot at Spurs.

It is stated that despite the Granada star’s release clause standing at €30m (£26m), Tottenham are set to test the La Liga club’s resolve with a €10m (£8.5m) offer for the defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Nuno has Dier, Sanchez, Romero and Rodon to chose from, with Davies and Tanganga also being able to slot into a back three, I do not see us signing another centre-back until the window closes.

The only way that changes is if we potentially sell Sanchez to Sevilla if Kounde moves to Chelsea but given the way the Colombian has started the season, it does seem like Nuno is prepared to give him a chance.
