Report: Spurs set to wrap up £41million option for central defender

Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete the permanent signing of Cristian Romero this month for £41million, according to The Telegraph.

Romero moved to north London from Serie A side Atalanta last summer on loan which included the option for Tottenham to make the deal permanent during the current transfer window.

The central defender is expected to sign a long-term contract with Tottenham on the back of an impressive first season in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old did encounter some injury issues in his first season at Spurs which saw him miss 16 matches in all competitions between November and February with a hamstring issue and also sat out the final few games of the season (transfermarkt).

Romero has helped to reinforce Tottenham’s defensive line, with his ability to also step out and join in the attack, having proven to be a key part of his game under Antonio Conte.

Credit must be given to Fabio Paratici for this transfer which looks to be an absolute bargain at £41million for a defender who is proving himself to be one of the very best in the world.
