Report: Spurs show interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder before deadline

Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Yannick Carrasco, according to Foot Mercato.

The report claims that Spurs, along with Newcastle United have made their interest known in the Belgian international, who is now represented by super-agent Pini Zahavi before the transfer window closes later today.

The 28-year-old moved to China after falling down the pecking order at the Wanda Metropolitano in 2018 and after two seasons with Dalian Yifang, he returned to Madrid in early 2020 where he has become a regular in Diego Simeone’s side (transfermarkt).

Carrasco is reported to have a €60million (£49.8million) transfer release clause in his contract, which has not put off the English clubs.

The left-winger who is under contract until June 2024 is open to leaving Atleti during the current window, but only for the right move. It is said that a summer departure is more likely with Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona already having sounded out a switch at the end of the campaign.

It would seem somewhat strange that Spurs would look to bring in a left-winger during the current window given the impending transfer of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, along with the current options that Conte has at his disposal.
