Report: Spurs showed interest in winger in January but ‘offer never arrived’

Tottenham Hotspur did not make any new signings during the January transfer window this year despite being linked with a whole host of names.

Among the players Spurs were said to be after were former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen and his Inter teammate, Ivan Perisic.

A report from CalcioMercato has now revealed that Spurs did make approaches for both Eriksen and Perisic, while also explaining why neither player ended up leaving Inter during last month’s transfer window.

The report claimed that Tottenham were not the only club who were after Eriksen, with Hertha Berlin and another one of the Dane’s former clubs in Ajax, also conveying their interest in swooping for the midfielder.

However, it is said that none of the three clubs were willing to meet Inter’s demands or pay a significant portion of the midfielder’s wages, which is why he stayed put at the San Siro.

The report also reveals that Tottenham ‘took information’ on Perisic along with Manchester United but no offer was forthcoming from either Premier League club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Going by Dele Alli’s body language and performance against Wolfsberger, it looks like the 24-year-old is motivated to prove a point.

It could thus turn out to be a blessing in disguise that our pursuit of Eriksen collapsed and we subsequently pulled the plug on Alli’s loan move to PSG.

I am not convinced that our interest in Perisic was genuine in January given the number of wide options Jose has at his disposal.
