Report: Spurs showing interest in highly-rated Ligue 1 right-back

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a potential move for Lille’s Mehmet Zeki Celik this summer, according to a report by Sporun Dibi.

However, the report also claims the North Londoners will likely face competition from Italian side Atalanta who are also monitoring the right-back.

The Turkish defender joined Lille in 2018 from Istanbulspor on a five-year deal and has impressed since his move to Ligue 1 (Transfermarkt).

The Turkish news outlet claims there are other clubs which are monitoring Celik, however, it is Spurs and Atalanta which are showing the most interest in the 23-year-old.

Spurs assistant coach, Joao Sacramento had worked with Celik during their time together at Lille which could prove a decisive factor if Spurs are to move forward in the race for the Turkish defender (Sky Sports).

With Jose Mourinho looking to strengthen his defence during the summer, it is reported his side will have to part with a fee in the region of €20-25million for Celik.

Spurs Web Opinion

Celik has impressed in Ligue 1, however, we have to be cautious as we currently have a right-back [Aurier] who impressed in Ligue 1 and he has failed to do so consistently since joining Spurs. One thing whhich is clear is that we need to address the right-back position ahead of next season.
