Report: Spurs slap three first-team players with fine

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have fined Erik Lamela, Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon after the trio were pictured together at a Christmas party.

The three players, along with West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini, were pictured in one house with eleven other adults, two children and a baby.

That was a clear violation of the lockdown rules which prohibits households in tier four from mixing in London.

When the news first came to light, Tottenham released a statement condemning their players’ antics and reminded them of their responsibilities.

Jose Mourinho also admitted that he was disappointed in their actions, revealing that he had presented a Portuguese piglet to Reguilon since he thought the defender would be spending Christmas alone.

The Athletic reveal that all three have now received a slap on the wrist by the club and that the Metropolitan Police had been made aware of the incident.

A spokesperson said in relation to the breach that: “We remind all Londoners that it is up to all of us to make the right choices in order to slow the spread of the virus.”

The report reveals that Lo Celso is out of action for the rest of the month, while Reguilon is expected to be in the squad to face Brentford this evening.

Mourinho previously confirmed that Lamela would not be available for the Carabao Cup semi-final but refused to elaborate why.

The three players in question showed a poor lack of judgement by defying the rules. The club have absolutely done the right thing by imposing a fine on them.
