Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are so confident that Antonio Conte will remain at the club next season that chairman Daniel Levy will not even attend the upcoming transfer meeting with the Italian.
Despite guiding Spurs to Champions League qualification with a win over Norwich, Conte refused to commit his future to the club, instead stating on Sunday that he will meet with the club’s hierarchy to discuss their ambitions (Football.London).
Spurs confirmed yesterday that they had received a £150m cash injection from majority shareholder ENIC.
Gold has now explained that the bulk of those funds, along with fees recouped from player sales, will be used to fund moves for the transfer targets that Conte wants to bring in this summer ahead of his first season in charge.
The Spurs hierarchy are said to be confident that Conte is happy with the club’s ambition and plans for the coming transfer window, so much so that Levy will not even meet with the 52-year-old.
Instead, the club’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, will fly to Italy to meet with Conte, with the talks expected to be centred around transfer targets rather than over the Italian coach’s future at the club.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs fans who have often accused Levy of lacking ambition and caring about profits more than glory need to eat a huge slice of humble pie.
Not only did the Spurs chairman show ambition by appointing a demanding coach like Conte in the first place but he has convinced Joe Lewis to inject money into the club, now that we have had our first full season with a capacity crowd at the new stadium.
