Report: Spurs ‘sound out’ move for England international midfielder

Tottenham have initiated contact with Jesse Lingard’s representatives about a potential move to North London, according to Football.London.

Lingard, 29, is approaching the end of his contract at Manchester United and has struggled to gain regular minutes at Old Trafford following a positive spell on loan at West Ham last season.

Reports have linked the England international midfielder with a move back to the Hammers, with manager David Moyes previously expressing his disappointment at seeing Lingard’s lack of time on the pitch.

However, Football.London now claim Tottenham have made their interest in Lingard known by entering discussions with the 29-year-old’s camp about a possible move to N17 in the summer.

The report states that he will become a free agent in the summer, but it is unclear whether United would be willing to sell a player directly to a club rivalling to finish in the top four this January.

In total, Lingard has made 223 appearances for United since breaking through to the first team in 2015, scoring 35 goals and assisting a further 21.

Lingard would honestly be a pretty decent option for Spurs if they could secure a move. He is a talented midfielder that would give the side some more creativity.

But, the main issue here is whether United would sell to another club rivalling to finish in the top four, which instantly makes this a tricky deal to complete.
