Report: Spurs staff have been really pleased with January signing’s attitude

The Independent report that Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff have been happy with how Timo Werner has done since arriving at Tottenham in January.

There was understandably a lot of scepticism from various pundits when Tottenham decided to secure Werner’s signature as the forward had failed to set the world alight in his two seasons at Chelsea.

He has made a decent start to his spell at the North London club, playing with the kind of intensity that Postecoglou likes to see from his forwards, although he has not exactly set the world alight.

It was reported by SportBILD (via Sport Witness) two weeks ago that Tottenham are happy with the impact the 27-year-old has made, with the Bundesliga side expecting the North London side to activate the £17m option to sign the player permanently in the summer.

However, the German international has not been without his critics, with Tony Cascarino recently accusing him of being predictable and insisting that he looks a worse player than he was at Chelsea (talkSPORT).

Tottenham pleased with Timo Werner’s attitude

Despite the noise coming from the outside, The Independent report that, internally at Hotspur Way, the response to Werner’s start to his Spurs career has been quite positive.

The report says that staff at the club have been quite pleased with the willingness that the German international has shown so far.

However, the outlet does not say if Tottenham are expected to take up the option to sign Werner permanently and reveals that the club are already searching the market for another top-quality winger in the summer.

While Werner has not been outstanding, he has certainly shown already that he can be quite a useful squad player. While the German is now unlikely to get starts following Son’s return from the Asian Cup, his pace and directness will be a good weapon to bring on from the bench.
