Report: Spurs star already learning new language as he plots move abroad

Tottenham defender, Jan Vertonghen, is reportedly learning a new language as he looks to seal an exit from Spurs this summer, according to a report in Football Insider.

The defender’s contract with Spurs runs out at the end of this season and reports indicate that he is likely to leave after rejecting a one-year extension offer (Football Insider).

The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to the Serie A over the past few weeks, with Inter Milan said to be leading the race for his signature (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness).

Napoli and Roma have also been credited with an interest in the centre back (Gazzetta dello Sport via TEAMtalk).

Football Insider now report that the long-serving defender is eyeing a move to either La Liga or Serie A and is thus primed to start learning either Spanish or Italian over the coming weeks.

They claim that the defender is seeking a minimum two-year contract amidst widespread interest in his services.

Spurs Web Opinion

Although Vertonghen has looked a shadow of his old self this season, I felt he was just regaining a bit of form right before the season was suspended. I can’t see Tottenham handing him more than a year’s extension and my gut instinct is that he will move to Italy. The pace of the Serie A will suit him and he could quite easily be a valuable asset for the likes of Inter and Roma for the next two or three seasons.
