According to Marca’s estimates, Harry Kane would become the fifth-highest paid player in the world if Tottenham meet the striker’s rumoured salary demands.
After Kane’s move to Manchester City failed to materialise this summer, sources have indicated that the striker could begin talks with the club over a new contract.
EuroSport have claimed that City are unlikely to re-ignite their interest in the England captain in the future and that the striker is thus open to signing a new deal in North London.
TEAMtalk later expanded on that information and revealed that the 28-year-old is seeking a contract worth £500,000-a-week.
The report added that while Daniel Levy would be willing to meet the striker’s salary demands, the Spurs chairman will not cede to the player’s demands of adding a release clause into the contract.
If Tottenham do hand Kane the half-a-million a week that he is alleged to want, then according to Marca’s information, the Tottenham man would become the fifth-highest paid player in the world.
The Spanish publication claims that Gareth Bale is currently the fifth-highest earner, with the Welshman taking home a salary of $690,000-per-week (£499,977.4).
So the reported figure would take the Tottenham man above Bale and leave him below only Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham are not a club that have shown a tendency to break their wage structure so comprehensively. So, if Kane does get a new contract, I suspect it would be worth closer to £300,000-a-week than £500,000-a-week.
