Report: Spurs star could get just his second start under Conte at Chelsea

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has predicted that Joe Rodon could be handed just his second start under Antonio Conte in the first leg of Tottenham Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

Conte confirmed in his press conference on Monday that Spurs are waiting on the results of a couple of Covid-19 tests before finalising who is available for the trip to Stamford Bridge tomorrow evening.

In addition, the Italian is also Ryan Sessegnon and Steven Bergwijn through injury (Spurs official).

Kilpatrick has now predicted that Rodon could get an opportunity in place of Eric Dier in the heart of the Tottenham defence.

The Welsh international’s only start under Conte came in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League in November.

Reports have indicated that the centre-back could leave Spurs on loan this month in search of regular first-team football.

Kilpatrick predicted that Rodon coming for Dier could be the only change from the eleven who started the win over Watford.

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect Conte to name a full-strength side for the Chelsea game before ringing the changes for the FA Cup clash against Morecambe on Sunday. I expect Dier to start over Rodon in the central sweeper role. The only player I can see potentially coming into the starting eleven is Harry Winks.
