Report: Spurs star had sports hernia surgery as soon as the season ended

Korea Herald have revealed that Son Heung-min is a doubt for South Korea’s upcoming international friendly against Peru after undergoing sports hernia surgery two weeks ago.

Son failed to hit his usual heights during much of the 2022-23 season, which was a source of much frustration for Spurs fans.

However, the forward still ended the campaign with 14 goals and six assists across all competitions, which perhaps shows the high standards that the 30-year-old has set for himself.

Korea Herald have perhaps shed light on one reason why Son might have not been at his best in the latter stages of the campaign.

Heung-min Son had minor surgery this month

The publication reveals that the forward went under the knife to fix his sports hernia as soon as he returned to his home country following the completion of the season on May 30.

The report states that Son is thus a doubt to play a part in South Korea’s friendly against Peru, which is set to be held in Busan on Friday.

A team official is quoted as saying in the report: “It’s been about two weeks and he’s focusing on recovery. We’ll have to wait and see if he will be available Friday. The coach has to make the decision, and Son really wants to play.”

The fact that Son had the surgery as soon as the season ended indicates that it had been bothering him for some time.

A sports hernia would perhaps explain why the 30-year-old seemed to lack his usual explosiveness during parts of the campaign.
