Report: Spurs star launches his own social media app

The Evening Standard have revealed that Eric Dier has co-founded an Instagram-like application that allows users to recommend hotels, restaurants, and bars to their friends and family.

The app, which is called ‘Spotlas’ is set out like Instagram, allowing people to set up a profile and follow their friends and family members.

People can post photos of the various spots that they enjoyed, with a map feature allowing users to find places near them – marked by Spotmojis.

A discover section in the app will showcase recommendations from accounts that users do not follow, while the app can also be switched to dark mode if one wants to find the recommended night spots.

Spotlas was founded by Dier, his brother Patrick and friend Zoe Connick, and aims to ensure that people never have a bad meal again when they eat out.

While the Tottenham defender has been bootstrapping the app, Patrick and Zoe take care of the development and marketing sides respectively.

Speaking about entering into the tech startup world, Dier said: “Tech is something we use every day and it’s exciting to have something you’ve created on your phone. We’re really excited about the launch now.”

Meanwhile, Patrick insisted that this is the ideal time for the application to come out as people are more careful about eating out.

He said: “People are more precious about dinners out, it’s less on an everyday thing.

“This works well for Spotlas because it’s all about not wasting a meal out somewhere you don’t trust.

“Our ultimate goal is that Spotlas is the app you open every time you want to choose a restaurant, hotel or somewhere to go.

“Every time you make that decision and want some guidance, whether it’s directions, look at a menu, or to book, we want that whole experience to happen on Spotlas.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

There is definitely a space for an application like Spotlas as the current methods of restaurant recommendations are fairly ineffective and do not necessarily cater to personal taste. This could well turn out to be a massively successful venture for the Spurs defender.
