Report: Spurs star open to leaving in January amid rumoured Liverpool interest

According to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Davinson Sanchez could be on his way out of Tottenham Hotspur when the transfer window reopens in January, with Liverpool being the latest club to show interest in snapping up the Spurs defender.

Sanchez has failed to kick on from his first couple of seasons in North London and establish himself as a mainstay in the team.

He seems to have fallen down Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, with the Spurs boss now seemingly settled on a pairing of Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld as his first choice.

Mourinho even named new signing Joe Rodon on the bench ahead of Sanchez in all of Tottenham’s last three Premier League games, with the Colombian missing on the matchday squad.

Don Balon (via TEAMtalk) previously reported that Sanchez’s international teammate James Rodriguez contacted the Spurs man about the possibility of moving to Everton, with Carlo Ancelotti keen on taking him to Goodison Park.

The same publication now reports that the red side of Merseyside is also vying for the 24-year-old’s signature after their injury crisis at the back.

The report claims that the former Ajax man has told his agent to listen to offers as he is open to leaving Spurs in January.

However, the report suggests that Tottenham have no desire to strengthen a direct rival and thus would not be willing to sell him to Liverpool unless they pay around €60m (£54m), a fee that the Reds consider excessive.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Mourinho had targeted Sanchez previously in the Europa League final, it is fair to assume that he had his doubts about the Colombian when he arrived at Spurs. However, Mourinho has given him a fair crack of the whip since he arrived and it does not look like Sanchez has done enough to change his mind.

Since reports from Italy have backed us to return with another offer for Skriniar in January, it does look like Sanchez’s time in North London might be about to come to an end. However, if we are still in the title race in January, I cannot see us willing to sell Sanchez to Liverpool.
