Report: Spurs star set to have scan on his ankle today after injury development

A new report has shed some light on Rodrigo Bentancur’s latest injury, with the Tottenham midfielder set for a scan on his ankle today.

Bentancur started his first game in nine months on Sunday, but lasted just 32 minutes of the clash with Aston Villa before needing to be replaced after a tough tackle from Matty Cash.

The Uruguay midfielder had missed the last eight months after picking up an ACL injury against Leicester City in February.

Ange Postecoglou will have been delighted to have the 25-year-old back in action, with a depleted squad already causing issues for the Spurs boss. The Australian told Football.London after the Villa defeat at how frustrated he was that his squad had been hit with another injury.

Bentancur injury to be assessed and scanned by Spurs

The severity of the injury has been unknown so far. But now, the latest update on Bentancur’s issue comes from the Standard, who reveal the Spurs man will have a scan at some point today to review the extent of the damage.

While the rest of the Tottenham squad were given the day off on Monday, it’s said Bentancur was present at Hotspur Way to have the injury “assessed.” This is followed by a scan scheduled for today to really get to grips with Bentancur’s status.

The report describes Tottenham as suffering an “injury crisis”, with nine first-team players now out of action. It’s hoped that Bentancur can overcome the “nasty challenge” he suffered at the weekend and not be an addition to Spurs’ long-term injury list.

We have got everything crossed and are saying our prayers to ensure Bentancur isn’t seriously injured. It would be such a gut-punch for Bentancur, the squad, and the fans, if such a talented and influential player was to suffer another long-term setback.
