Report: Spurs star still wants to extend his stay at the club

According to a report in Football Insider, Tottenham centre half Jan Vertonghen wishes to extend his stay at the club beyond this summer.

The Belgian international, who has been one of Spurs’ most consistent performers over the last few years, is one of several players who are into the final years of their contracts with the club.

The defender will turn 23 next April and is thus unlikely to get an extension of over a year given the club’s stringent policy when it comes to offering contracts to older players.

The former Ajax man signed a 12-year extension last December and the report claims that a source in the club has said that the Belgian is keen on extending his stay at Tottenham.

The report adds that Vertonghen remains fully committed to the club despite not making the starting 11 for three of the first four games of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a big season for Vertonghen as he has to win his place back in the side and show that he can still perform to his usual standard. I certainly don’t think this is going to be the Belgian’s final season at Spurs. I back him to respond in a positive fashion and prove once again why he is one of the world’s best.
