Report: Spurs star will snub Saudi interest and sign a new contract

Heung-min Son is happy at Tottenham and will look to sign a new contract in the near future, despite continued interest from Saudi Arabia regarding a summer move.

Of all the players in the Tottenham squad right now, few are as valuable as Heung-min Son. The Spurs skipper is the main source of goals for the club, and his world-class ability makes him the first name on the teamsheet for Ange Postecoglou.

Son is enjoying a fruitful campaign in his first year as club captain, too, registering 12 goals and six assists so far this term (Transfermarkt).

Reports emerged last summer that Son was wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia (ESPN), and they are back again now, with journalist Rudy Galetti claiming the South Korean is part of a ‘strategic plan’ for the burgeoning league ahead of the summer.

However, Football Insider recently suggested Spurs will look to tie Son down to a new contract to stave off the interest from abroad.

Son wants to stay at Spurs

Now, the same outlet has discussed Son’s own stance on the matter, and it seems the 31-year-old is ready to commit to a new deal and ignore the approaches from Saudi Arabia.

It is thought Son has told friends that he is “happy” at Spurs and expects negotiations over a contract extension to begin “in due course.”

Apparently, Son “still feels he is at the peak of his career” and is prepared to “snub” any offers that come his way from outside the Premier League in favour of committing to the “project” Postecoglou is building in North London.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is absolutely no way Son would move to Saudi Arabia. He knows he is the main man at Spurs now and he is clearly enjoying life under Postecoglou. He’s got so much more to give at this level, and I wouldn’t expect him to go for a money move for a good few years still.
