Report: Spurs star’s agent set to meet with club director over potential exit

Tottenham Hotspur central defender, Toby Alderwerield, has just one year left on his current contract in North London.

This comes after Spurs chose to extend the deal by an extra year in early 2019, thus activating a clause that could allow the Belgian to leave for just £25m this summer (Guardian).

This clause runs until two weeks before the start of the new season, namely July 26, giving Spurs two weeks to hang onto their defensive star.

However, Italian side Roma are said to be interested in meeting Alderweireld’s release clause before then (Sky Sports).

CalcioMercato now claim that Toby’s agent is expected to meet with ex-Spurs sporting director, and current Roma employee, Franco Baldini.

It is thought that Baldini will travel to London and Roma will then discuss a move with Spurs if personal terms can first be agreed with Alderweireld.

This would certainly be a huge loss for the Lilywhites, with Alderweireld and Vertonghen being pillars in the central defence for Poch over the last few seasons.
