Report: Spurs star’s future hangs in the balance despite 27 appearances this season

Despite Dejan Kulusevski declaring his intention to stay at Tottenham, Il Bianconero have now claimed that the Swede’s future in North London is uncertain amidst the risk of Antonio Conte leaving the club.

Kulusevski is currently on loan at Spurs from Juventus but the Lilywhites are expected to make the deal permanent for around £31m in the summer, which they would be obligated to do if they finish in the top four this season (Fabrizio Romano).

The Swede has appeared 27 times across all competitions this season, but has only scored twice and assisted seven times (TransferMarkt).

The 22-year-old insisted earlier this week that Conte’s potential departure from Tottenham will not affect his future and that he wants to remain at the club beyond the summer (Daily Mirror).

However, Il Bianconero have now reported that since there is a ‘revolution in the air’ at Tottenham, the Premier League club’s decision on activating the option to buy Kulusevski’ is now ‘in the balance’.

The publication explains that the clause is now ‘under discussion’ internally at Spurs and while it is expected to be activated barring any surprises, ‘nothing can be excluded’ at the moment, given the potential wholesale changes that are underway at Hotspur Way.

I cannot see Conte’s potential departure (or even Fabio Paratici’s) stopping Tottenham from activating the option to buy Kulusevski.

While the Swede has not been at his best over recent months, there is no doubt that he would still be a bargain signing at £31m.
