Report: Spurs ‘step up’ bid for 28-year-old after Skriniar fears

According to a report from The Daily Express, Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their bid to sign Jannik Vestergaard as they fear they may not be able to land Milan Skriniar.

Spurs have been backed to make another attempt to sign Skriniar this summer after failing to get a deal for the Slovak over the line last year.

The North Londoners have also been linked with a move for Vestergaard on the back of the Dane’s impressive displays for Southampton this season.

The Express now claim that strengthening at centre-back is Jose Mourinho’s number one priority this summer.

It is revealed that while Skirniar remains Tottenham’s number one target, the club are worried that Inter Milan might decide to hang on to the centre-back after his improved run of form over recent weeks.

The report suggests that Tottenham have identified Vestergaard as a potential alternative to Skriniar and have ‘fast-tracked’ their approach for the Saints star.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would prefer Skriniar over Vestergaard despite the fact that the Inter defender is not proven in the Premier League as he arguably has a much higher ceiling than the Saints man.

However, Skrinianr would also likely be more expensive than Vestergaard. So, I would not be surprised if Spurs went for 28-year-old this summer, provided that he does not sign a new deal with Southampton as some reports suggest.
