Report: Spurs step up interest in highly-rated Italian youngster

According to a report in the Express, Tottenham are set to step up their interest in Fiorentina winger Riccardo Sottil.

The 20-year-old has only made a handful of appearances in the Serie A but is rated very highly, having already featured for Italy’s U-21 side.

The youngster spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie B side Pescara and his impressive displays for the club caught a lot of people’ attention.

The report claims that Spurs have been paying close attention to the young talents coming out of the Italian market recently and Sottil is said to be one of the players on the forefront of their radar.

It is suggested that Tottenham will send their scouts to watch the winger in action against Atalanta on Sunday to compile an initial report.

The club will reportedly keep close tabs on Sottil over the coming months before deciding whether or not to make an offer for him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the current state of the market, one cannot expect a club like Tottenham to break the bank every summer to bring in top quality superstars.

While big money signings are necessary from time to time, the club have to continue operating smartly in the transfer window by signing young talents who can potentially develop into top players. That is the only way Spurs can sustainably compete with the likes of Manchester City as it will take a while before we can match their spending power.
