Report: Spurs still in the running for centre-back valued at £21m

According to Italian publication Il Giornale (as relayed by Milan News 24 and SportWitness), Tottenham Hotspur remain in contention to sign Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer.

Reports over recent days have indicated that Spurs are set to prioritise a central midfielder, a right wing-back and an attacker this month, with Antonio Conte prepared to put off the pursuit of a new centre-back until the summer.

It was previously revealed that Bremer is on one of the central defenders on Tottenham’s wishlist, with the club’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici thought to be keen on bringing the 24-year-old to North London.

Torino president Urbano Cairo insisted last month that he has not spoken to clubs regarding Bremer and that he expects the defender to stay at Turin until the end of the season.

However, Il Giornale have now revealed that the Brazilian could still leave the club this month, with Spurs continuing to hold an interest in the player.

The report explains that Conte’s men face competition from AC Milan and Inter for the centre-back.

With Bremer’s contract expiring in 2023, it is asserted that Torino would be willing to cash in on him if they receive an offer of €25m (£20.8m).

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs do let Tanganga and Rodon leave this month (either on loan or permanently), then one would expect the club to bring in a centre-back. However, I do suspect that a central defender might not be as big a priority for Conte as a right wing-back or a striker.
